Buy Local in Reedsport

You Can Make a Difference!

In an effort to increase awareness of the importance of supporting our local economy, the Chamber has re-launched its “Buy Local” campaign. This is a regional effort designed to encourage residents and businesspeople to spend dollars here when possible-this means personal spending as well as business purchasing.

If people can shift as much of their spending as possible to an area company, then those dollars can save a job or keep a local company open. It’s a critical time right now-and every single penny that stays in our community makes a difference.

REEDSPORT/WINCHESTER BAY UPDATES

Confluence 2013 was a wonderful success, thanks to our hard-working volunteers! The President's Day Weekend event brought well over 1000 visitors to town to enjoy wine, beer, live music with six top-notch bands, and a wonderful variety of fresh seafood and other snacks. We're already working on Confluence 2014 and continuing to grow! Mark calendars now to join us next year.

Spring Break is coming and we're ready for your family! It's whale watching season here and Reedsport/Winchester Bay is the perfect spot to spend the week at the heart of the dunes. We're only 20 minutes either way to Florence and Coos Bay for day trips. Winchester Bay has the tallest dunes in the United States and there are several establishments to rent ATVs. Or take a quiet stroll on the beach. 40 miles of undisturbed and uncrowded ocean front are open to all. Bring a fishing pole and crab rings or rent when you arrive. guided fishing trips assure a catch from the best secret spots in the river and ocean. The Umpqua Discovery Center is perfect for family fun and learning about life in a tidepool town. Exquisite dioramas and interactive displays have something for all ages. Th Umpqua River Lighthouse is open for tours, and you'll find we have nice clean motels with low rates, and many family restaurants with excellent fare including fresh seafood!

Our next event is the Chainsaw Sculpting Championship held over Father's Day Weekend. The four-day art show is a fascinating demonstration of carving logs into gorgeous, imaginative scultptures. 50 carvers from around the world work in the open, allowing an up-close view of how it's done. In addition to creating a masterpiece, each carver participates in "quick-carve" contests each day. Sculptors are given 90 minutes to carve a creation from beginning to end. At the end of each day the carvings are auctioned to the public. See details by clicking here
